I’m Dr James Buchli — a professional guitarist with a PhD in Rock and Metal Guitar Performance and a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in Contemporary Guitar Performance.
I specialise in working with dedicated adult guitarists who want to develop real command of their instrument. From building strong foundations to refining advanced technique, my teaching focuses on rock, metal, and blues, with an emphasis on precision, musicality, improvisation, and stylistic depth.
I work with beginner, intermediate, and advanced players who are serious about consistent progress. I teach independent adults exclusively and am not currently offering lessons for children or teenagers.
In addition to guitar, I offer bass guitar lessons in Canberra for adults who want to develop solid, musical rock and metal bass skills. Whether you’re starting from scratch or transitioning from guitar, I provide clear, structured guidance covering everything from timing and groove to articulation, speed development, fingerstyle technique, and locking in confidently with drums.
Every lesson is tailored to your goals, strengths, and learning style. My aim is simple: measurable progress, confident expression, and the development of a sound that is distinctly your own.
Lessons are neurodivergent-friendly, with teaching adapted thoughtfully and respectfully to individual needs.
